As Viola, Taraji, Mary J., Kerry, Oprah, and other upwardly mobile black women demonstrate, it is possible to live the American Dream if you have determination and opportunity. Yet, the sheer number of women of color experiencing an American nightmare shows that it is just as important and legitimate to design policies that increase their chances for achieving success.
