The Experts of Color Network wrote an open letter to President Obama to ask him to nominate a Supreme Court judge that would reflect the country’s diversity. The letter was covered by The Hill.

In a letter to Obama this week, the Experts of Color Network said it wants the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s successor to be someone with an understanding of how historical laws, policies and practices have shaped opportunity and adversity.

The group, which is made up of more than 200 scholars, advocates, and community leaders, said the nominee should be fair and open minded, have a deep, abiding appreciation for social justice and believe in the concept of universal adult suffrage and the principle of one person, one vote.
