Washington, D.C., June 29, 2015 — In a whirlwind week of Supreme Court decisions, millions of Americans gained or maintained important rights necessary for achieving a diverse and inclusive society. We applaud the Supreme Court for affirming the right of all gay couples to marry anywhere in the country, maintaining the subsidies that make health insurance premiums affordable, and strengthening protections against housing discrimination.

Strengthening the Fair Housing Act of 1968 in preventing segregation and discrimination, even if unintended, will have a tremendously positive effect on communities of color, who have occupied the bottom of the economic ladder for too long. Everything is tied to where you live: your health, your wealth, your chance to get a good job, your children’s chances at a fair shot in life, and your political participation.
